Eluminus the Sprite

Eluminus is a sprite, of all the fae folk sprites are probably the most different and difficult to understand for humans. Sprites are able to focus their eternal powers to create illusions, to rearrange matter and even  transmute elements, that means creating things out of nothing. Only the Sersi are more powerful in this right.

They are also closely related to Fire Fae who possess the power of pyrokinesis, which is the ability to manipulate and create fire.

A sprite is very tricky to describe as they seem to be right at the threshold of life itself, I’ll explain a little more.

In the fairy world sprites are not really seen as a full part of the realm. You can talk to them but their conversation is rather basic and disembodied it usually tends to be about the essentials of life rather than everyday matters. They are gregarious in nature and

Being so closely connected to the powers of electricity and light they are able to be anywhere in the world, literally in a flash. There is even a legacy from sprites in all of us. Humans are the most corporeal, (having a body) but even humans have little electrical flashes in our nerves to get our muscles to work, these are left over from the beginning of life when sprites were everywhere. Sprites are visible to all, but they are not at all common, they are very gregarious and are known to appear as a cloud hovering in one spot in the same way as a cloud of midges might do under a low branch of a tree in summer. There appearance often heralds a thunderstorm. They can also appear high in the atmosphere creating luminous clouds that have even been photographed from space.

By their very nature they are elusive but they can be seen as guardians of both the enchanted and the science realms with their incredible power and of course their immortality.

Pyrene (Fire Fae) and Eluminus (Sprite)

Perhaps we have already seen an example of their guardianship already. Over 30 years ago humans agreed to stop releasing chemicals into the air that were causing holes in the sky over the polar regions of the earth. That decision made a massive difference as it allowed natural light and heat to create more of a gas called ozone by splitting oxygen and allowing the atoms to reform in the groups of three that can block harmful radiation. Was it a coincidence that light (Eluminus) and heat (Pyrene) were essential to sealing the gap in earth’s natural defences?
